The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts its computer-based typing tests across TCS iON centers throughout India. Understanding the software interface helps prevent exam-day panic.
1. Exam Day Workflow (3-Stage Session)
- Stage 1: Mock Typing Test (10 Minutes)
- A trial paragraph appears to allow you to test keyboard keys, spacebar responsiveness, and layout.
- Marks scored in the mock test are NOT evaluated for final merit.
- Stage 2: Rest / Verification Break (3 Minutes)
- Candidates can stretch, adjust chair posture, and verify keyboard comfort. If any key was malfunctioning during the mock, inform the invigilator immediately for a replacement.
- Stage 3: Actual Typing Test (10 or 15 Minutes)
- The real master passage is loaded. Timer counts down from 10:00 (CHSL) or 15:00 (CGL).
2. Software Interface Features & Rules
| Feature | SSC Status | Candidate Advice |
|---|---|---|
| Backspace Key | Enabled (Full Functionality) | Use sparingly; deleting full sentences costs precious time. |
| Arrow Navigation Keys | Enabled (Left, Right, Up, Down) | Helpful for correcting a single typo in the current line. |
| Mouse Scrolling | Enabled | Use mouse wheel to scroll master passage as you progress. |
| Auto-Submit on Timer End | Yes | No need to rush-click Submit; the software locks automatically at 00:00. |
